El Segundo Museum of Art

The El Segundo Museum of Art is conceived as an art laboratory serving Los Angeles’s South Bay community. Its mixed-use functions include fine art exhibition, art education, and live/work accommodations for an artist-in-residence program. Specialized Construction provided construction management, building systems coordination, and architectural detailing services for the project. The project sits on a narrow building lot and utilizes the maximum area allowed by the City of El Segundo. The building’s primary spaces feature a main gallery with 24-foot ceiling datum, an assembly area for education outreach, a well-appointed artist-in-residence studio, and a roof patio with views of the city’s skyline. The architectural design integrates diffused, natural light that fills interior spaces while significantly reducing energy consumption. Total area: 5,000 square feet. Project collaborators: Eva Sweeney [project designer] and John Milander AIA [architect of record]. To learn more, click link to ESMoA video.
